Default heating leos

hi I hav a glass exo terra setup im heating it with a heat mat with out a thermostat the air temp is 85.However when i move the sand out of the way the glass over the heat mat is quite warm not really that hot though is this something to be worried about i dont want any burns

i would really get a stat, check the ground temps as leos need belly heat not an air temp update with a temp if u can

yeah as above. ALWAYS have a stat. they can heat to mega temps that dont seem too hot to us but putting a thermometer on it would shock you as to what heat it actually is.

also sand heats up very hot and holds the heat well, so a stat would be helpful

Do you have a heatmat that covers the whole base of the tank?

i found it best to atleast keep a 'cool area' as they love to thrermoregulate between hot and cold (buy a mat half or 1/3rd smaller than the floorbase itself)

Thermo is a must! but the temps im roughly sitting at:

Daytime: 89-90 oF (basking)
85-88 oF (cool side)

Nighttime: 77 oF (Total, Aslong as it does not go under 70!!)


i have an emergency fan to draw the air out as the tank sometimes overheats in the summer



I know mine is sitting against a wooden tank, but i use to have this on an exo-terra one for a bitty

Default Hi

Hi am having trouble with the heat mats a can not get the temp to the correct daytime temp. The max temp the therm is reading is 27c on the hot side.

where is the thermometer and where is your thermostats sensor?

My thermometre is near the ground where the heat mats are and my thermo is near that aswell. The temp of ground seems to b ok during the day. Its the at night time when I switch the lights off. Could I use a infered heater?

try raising the thermostat probe slightly, something like a bit of cardboard taped under the probe between it and the heat mat/glass.
